What is a CTF

In the cybersecurity world, CTF stands for Capture The Flag — a competitive format where participants solve real-world security challenges to “capture” virtual flags hidden within systems or applications. These challenges test a wide range of skills — from cryptography and web exploitation to reverse engineering, OSINT, and logical thinking.

But a CTF is more than just a game. It’s a hands-on way to learn, practice, and prove your cybersecurity expertise in a safe, controlled environment. Participants simulate the mindset of attackers and defenders, sharpening their ability to think critically, analyze systems, and uncover vulnerabilities before real threats do.

For individuals, it’s a chance to level up their technical and analytical abilities. For the wider community — it’s an opportunity to build stronger, more resilient cyber defenses.

The National CTF: A Joint Initiative by HackenProof and the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine

To promote cybersecurity education and hands-on skill development across the global infosec community, HackenProof— a leading Web3 security platform — has partnered with the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) to launch the National CTF 2025.

The event aims to unite security researchers, students, and professionals from around the world, encouraging collaboration, learning, and innovation through competition. It’s a space where participants can test their skills, exchange knowledge, and engage with real-world cybersecurity challenges in a professional, yet inspiring environment.

The National CTF 2025 is proudly supported by Giga Cloud, Virgil Security, and WebbyLab, with HackenIncryptedand DOU as media partners — bringing together global experts, industry leaders, and technology enthusiasts around one shared goal: advancing cybersecurity excellence through collaboration and practice.

Format and Levels of Difficulty

The National CTF 2025 will run from November 20 to December 1, 2025, bringing together participants of all experience levels — from beginners exploring cybersecurity fundamentals to seasoned researchers ready for complex challenges.

Competitors can join individually or as part of a team, choosing their own strategy and pace. The CTF features three levels of difficulty, each designed to test different technical and analytical skills:

  1. Beginner — Cryptography, OSINT, and LogicLearn to analyze data, decode messages, and apply logical reasoning to uncover hidden information.
  2. Intermediate — Web PentestingExplore the process of discovering and exploiting mid-level vulnerabilities in web applications.
  3. Advanced — Complex Web ExploitationTackle multi-stage exploits, privilege escalation, and lateral movement challenges that reflect real-world attack scenarios.

Each challenge is crafted to simulate realistic cybersecurity cases — offering a practical, hands-on way to enhance your skills and prepare for professional security roles.

How to Participate

  1. Register on the CTF page
  2. Verify your account to gain access.
  3. Join the competition once it starts on November 20, 2025.

Participation is free and open to all, with no geographic restrictions. You can even compete anonymously — just choose your nickname and play under it.

For any technical or organizational questions, join our official Discord community, where participants can connect, ask for help, and share their experience throughout the event.

Fair play is key. All activities must stay within the official CTF environments. External attacks, DDoS attempts, or sharing of solutions outside authorized channels are strictly prohibited.

Rewards and Recognition

Every participant of the National CTF 2025 will receive a certificate of participation, acknowledging their effort and dedication to cybersecurity.

The top-performers will be awarded prizes and special distinctions from the event sponsors, recognizing exceptional skill, creativity, and problem-solving ability.

Results and leaderboards will be published on both the HackenProof website and the CTF platform, giving participants the opportunity to see how they rank among peers from around the world.

This is not only a chance to earn recognition — it’s a unique opportunity to demonstrate your skills, build credibility in the cybersecurity community, and gain experience that can be applied in real-world security roles.
