HackenProof, in Partnership with Hack The Box—the Four Million Platform—Has Launched a CTF Security Challenge for the Blockchain Industry

Blockchain security has a talent problem: the pace of new protocols and smart contracts is outrunning the number of hackers trained to break them safely. To help close that gap, HackenProof partnered with Hack The Box (HTB)—now the world's largest ethical hacking community, with a loyal base of more than 4 million members—to build a dedicated line of CTF-style blockchain security challenges.

What started as a weekly challenge series has grown into a full gamified track, giving hackers a structured, hands-on way to learn blockchain exploitation from the ground up, and giving the top performers a direct path into HackenProof's crowdsourced bug bounty ecosystem.

Together, the two companies set out to do for blockchain security what HTB has already done for traditional penetration testing: turn abstract vulnerability classes into hands-on, gamified CTF challenges that hackers actually want to solve.

Inside the Challenges: CTF Meets 8-Bit RPG

The HackenProof x HTB blockchain content is built around two connected formats:

Weekly CTF Challenges

  • A new CTF challenge was released on HTB every week, curated by HackenProof's security researchers to cover the vulnerability classes attackers actually exploit in the wild.
  • The series spans 10 quests of varying difficulty, each targeting a different weak point in blockchain and smart contract design.

The Blockchain Security Track

  • Building on the challenge series, HackenProof and HTB launched a dedicated Blockchain Security Track: 8 challenges, ranging from easy to very hard, designed to take a hacker from first principles to advanced blockchain exploitation.
  • Both formats are fully gamified as an immersive 8-bit RPG experience—learners step into the role of Alex, navigating a world of mythical creatures while working through real smart contract vulnerabilities. It's a deliberately different way to teach a technical, often dry subject: courage, curiosity, and problem-solving are rewarded just like in any good RPG.
